Not sure if you saw the little article for Heifer (and sort of Salvation Army) but it looks like they've dived into this power of influence thingy in a neat way. Here's the link, hope it works: http://www.nwanews.com/adg/national/175558/. Exerpt: "With Christmas coming on, the charity started registering the bloggers and offering them online tools such as a fundraising thermometer and a button readers can click to make a credit-card donation...A knitting blog has brought in $ 19, 000 so far, he noted." Hmm, hope your friends start to see the greatness in this idea! At least to test :-)

Thanks for the link Duke. I've been surprised at how easy it was to set up the ChipIn widget... and to raise money so fast for my site upgrade. It took less than a week to reach 50% of my goal.

Duke... great article and I like your use of the term ROI as a Return on Influence which is essentially what online fundraising activities should be. A mixture of both contributions and messaging. We are building ChipIn as a tool to provide both of those attributes via our ChipIn widgets. There are several major new features we will be releasing in the upcoming weeks which includes the ability to create a sub campaign from a parent campaign. This helps supporters create their own Sphere of Influence by segmenting the fundraising efforts.
